DiabetesDiabetic has become epidemic worldwide. China’s diabetes rate in 2013 surpassed America. The reason behind must be food-based component which affects all socio-economic classes. China is about to overtake Western Europe in EPA/DHA consumption. It has been known that fish oil’s negative impact on blood glucose and how it blunts the important insulin responses. Diabetic people as well as pre-diabetic people want the maximum protection against its complication. Today, PEOs is a diabetic best friend and a new tool for endocrinologists specializing in diabetes.

Amid Habib, M.D., a renowned diabetes specialist, certified in both pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology states unequivocally:

“My personal experience over decades of practice in both children and adults is that fish oil increases the appetite, contributing to weight gain and leading to hyperinsulinemia and possible insulin resistance.

“Insulin resistance in a high percentage of obese children and the onset of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) is associated with the development of hyperinsulinemia.

“Fish oil worsens glycemic control in diabetes, possibly due to turning off insulin secretion and decreasing sensitivity to insulin at peripheral tissue sites. Experiments show that healthy individuals may suffer the same effects.

“In diabetes, both hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) resulting from too much insulin and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) resulting from not enough insulin and/or insulin resistance, both trigger the hunger response, resulting in overeating, worsening of diabetic control, and contributing to weight gain.”

Higher blood glucose levels require increased insulin production, excessively stressing a patient’s pancreas. Furthermore, high blood sugars are now known to be detrimental to the pancreas itself. Fish oil lowers insulin’s effectiveness and impairs insulin production resulting in elevated blood glucose levels.

Glucose [sugar from carbohydrates] causes diabetes! Diabetes 2001; 50:1683-1690. “Our results underscore the importance of tight glucose [sugar] control in limiting beta-cell destruction ….”
