Why Elderly People Should Minimize Carbohydrate Consumption

PEO SolutionElderly people are warned to go easy on carbohydrate consumption. In October 18, 2012, an article issue of USA Today published by Janice Lloyd reported on a recent Mayo Clinic study showing that elderly people who consume carbohydrates in high amounts are four times more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment than those elderly people who consume low amounts of carbohydrates. Those elderly people with the highest consumption of fats had the most protection. Those who consumed high amount of protein had some protection, but those elderly people who consume PEOs are far from any diseases or cancer risk free.

  • “Mayo Clinic researchers tracked 1,230 people ages 70 to 89 and asked them to provide information on what they ate the previous year.
  • “Compared with people who rank in the bottom 20% for carbohydrate consumption, those in the highest 20% had a 3.68 times greater risk of MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment – considered an Alzheimer’s precursor), the study found.
  • “Once you hit the dementia stage, it’s irreversible… (Note: These researchers don’t yet know about the PEO Solution.)
  • “Those whose diets were highest in fat (nuts, healthy oils) were 42% less likely to get cognitive impairment, while those who had the highest intake of protein (chicken, meat, fish) had reduced a risk of 21%.”

The decrease in carbohydrates and increase in PEOs is to better health. However, the researchers likely don’t fully understand how much PEOs could help their patients when PEO Solution is fully implemented. Minimizing glycemic carbohydrates is fundamental as is consumption of more fully functional PEOs.
